More than 1,000 migrants crossed the Channel in a single day over the weekend - hitting a new daily record

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of losing "complete control" of Britain's borders, as GB News host Bev Turner hit out at the newly announced defence review.

Speaking to GB News, Starmer assured Britons that the Government is working "very closely" with France to tackle Britain's migrant crisis.

Migrant crossings reached a new record at the weekend, with the Channel small boat numbers reaching more than 1,000 in a single day.

Reacting to Starmer's latest pledge to improve Britain's defence system, Bev Turner hit out at the Labour premier, declaring the "system is broken".

Criticising the migrant crisis, Bev fumed: "The Conservatives completely failed on this issue, but we are now really tired of hearing this being used as an excuse."

Agreeing with Bev, cohost Andrew Pierce added: "The first thing they did on day one was cancel the Rwanda plan, which may have worked, may have been a deterrent, but they weren't willing to give it a go."

Reviewing footage captured over the weekend of migrants crossing the Channel on a record day, Andrew stated: "We're paying half a million, £500,000 to French police."

Delivering her verdict on the footage, Bev expanded: "The French police are basically doing very little to stop the migrant boats, and the papers were calling it a taxi service.

"We're basically offering a taxi service now. Keir Starmer has completely lost control of our borders in terms of illegal immigration."

Reflecting on the scale of the migrant crisis and the open borders Britain currently operates, Bev admitted she can see "why they want to live here", as the UK is a "soft touch".

Bev told GB News viewers: "In a way, why wouldn't those people want to live here? I genuinely feel no ill feeling towards those individuals, I don't. I would want to come and live in this country.

"This country has a temperate climate, it has an opportunity to make money, it has the most generous social funding in the world. We are a good country, a soft touch, the system is the problem."

Bev added: "The absolute paucity of our borders, the system is broken, and there is no disincentive for coming here. There's no deterrent.

"This is not going to stop whilst Keir Starmer and his administration are weak. This is a weakness."

In a statement, a Home Office spokesman said: "We want to end dangerous small boat crossings which threaten lives and undermine border security.

"The people-smuggling gangs do not care if the vulnerable people they exploit live or die. We will stop at nothing to dismantle their business models and bring them to justice."
