Facebook posts show a history of shocking statements from the candidate made over a decade ago

A Liberal Democrat candidate in the upcoming local elections made shocking statements in a number of Facebook posts promoting violence and a desire to “kill” before she was involved with the party.

Nikita Primrose Sykes, who is the party’s candidate in the North Yorkshire seat of Skelton West, said “I really really want to kill something” among numerous other violent social media statuses.

Sykes announced that she was standing in the Redcar council ward last week, proclaiming a platform of transgender rights, equality and accusing the Conservatives of “destroying the country”.

However historic Facebook posts show a history of shocking posts from the candidate a decade ago.

The Facebook account also detailed use of cannabis up to 2015, accusing the Government of making “war with us cannabis smokers” and sharing a graphic reading “home is where the weed is”.

Another pro-marijuana post from Sykes, retrieved by the Express read: “Thank you, Cannabis”, listing the drug as helping her “get to bed… giving me the motivation to write… introducing me to great friends… helping me with my anger issues… helping me keep a positive outlook… for being there for me when no one else was”.

Local Conservative MP Simon Clarke said the posts from Nikita Sykes are “horrifying”.

“These quotes are horrifying, most especially in their repeated references to, and threats of, extreme violence.

“It is very obvious Sykes is totally unsuitable for public office and I hope the Liberal Democrats will act immediately to withdraw her candidacy, she ought never to have been allowed to stand in the first place.

“I hope she can now find the help she clearly needs.” he told the Express.

Nikita Primrose Sykes announced her candidacy on Thursday, using the name “Katy Primose Sykes” on her nomination form and stating her values.

She said: “I am a trans woman, an agnostic atheist, and psychology student. I have lived in the local area for most of my life."

“With the Conservatives destroying the country, and Labour dithering, please consider voting for the safe and fair vote that is the Liberal Democrats.”

A Liberal Democrat spokesperson said they were " looking into the comments which appear to have been made several years ago on social media.

“Any complaints will be fully reviewed under the party's independent complaints system."
