This week marks one year since Labour came into power, after suffering the shortest honeymoon of a political party in history.

Piers Pottinger has launched a blistering attack on Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Government, branding the Prime Minister "delusional" and declaring that "Labour is misery" during an appearance on GB News.

This week marks one year since Labour came into power, with the Prime Minister delivering an interview yesterday and saying he is "proud" of the party.

The Government's difficulties were starkly illustrated this week when Starmer was forced into a major U-turn on benefits reforms to secure enough support from rebellious MPs.

The climbdown meant £5billion of planned savings vanished, leaving the Chancellor searching for alternative revenue sources.

Reflecting on the past year, political commentator Piers Pottinger told GB News: "I do think Keir Starmer is on planet Zog rather than planet Earth, because he seems completely delusional.

"Yesterday, he gave an interview where he said he was 'proud as hell' of Labour’s achievements during their first year in Government. I wonder what those achievements could be. It’s a disaster. It’s a catastrophe.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"Rachel Reeves won’t be crying when the Budget comes. It’ll be everyone else in the country. We’ll all be in tears because she’s got no choice but to raise taxes.

"Talk about irony she's stopped mentioning the black hole she claimed to have inherited because she’s now created one herself: roughly £30billion. That means the next Budget is going to be even worse than the last. It’s absolutely extraordinary.

"The point is, if you wanted one word to sum up this Government, it would be: misery. Everything they do creates misery. Nobody has benefited from anything this Government has done it’s extraordinary.

"And the taxes she’s talking about well, as usual, she’ll introduce them in a devious way, trying to make it look like she’s not raising income tax. But she’ll do everything she can to punish savers, pensioners, pension pots, and farmers again."

He added: "Unless you are a public sector trade union worker, you’re not going to get anything out of this Government ever."

Sir Keir Starmer’s first year as Prime Minister has been branded the second worst of the 21st century, a damning report exclusively shared with GB News has revealed.

The TaxPayers' Alliance assessed economic performance across key indicators during the first 12 months of seven Prime Ministers.

The report assessed several factors - including economic growth, debt, unemployment, inflation, and business confidence - to score each leader’s impact on the economy.

Only Rishi Sunak’s first year ranked lower, with Starmer's immediate predecessor coming last in all categories except business confidence and debt.

Starmer recorded the third lowest GDP growth at just 1.2 per cent, the third highest increase in debt levels at 3.74 per cent, and the second worst rise in unemployment, which increased by 0.23 per cent.

Inflation stood at 3.2 per cent, the second highest of the group, alongside an equally poor showing for business confidence.

The report noted that David Cameron’s first year - which came just two years after the 2008 financial crisis - and Boris Johnson's Covid-fixated first 12 months were directly impacted by both events.
