A previous petition calling for yet another national poll received more than three million signatures

Sir Keir Starmer has been left facing yet more backlash from voters after 330,000 people signed a petition demanding an immediate General Election.

The petition, which was set up last month, exceeded the 100,000 threshold needed to force a Westminster Hall debate earlier this week.

A similar petition forced a debate earlier this year, with more than three million demanding an immediate poll.

More than 200 people have signed the new petition in the Prime Minister's own seat of Holborn & St Pancras, with 921 demanding a General Election in Nigel Farage's patch of Clacton.

A large number of signatures have come from seats which have been grappling with asylum hotel protests in recent weeks, including 1,190 in Epping and 1,082 in Fareham & Waterlooville.

Despite Britons only going to the polls just 400 days ago, Starmer's support has slumped since entering No10.

The first petition to call for the UK to hold its sixth national poll in 15 years was created following a backlash from voters over plans to cut Winter Fuel Payments and introduce a so-called "Tractor Tax".

However, Starmer's support has fallen even further, with Reform UK now supplanting Labour as Britain's largest party and opening up leads in 79 consecutive opinion polls.

The recent petition, which was created by Nicola Cree and will remain on the Parliament website until December 5, says: "We want an immediate General Election to be held. We think the majority need and want change."

Despite opposition to Starmer growing, there is virtually no chance the petition will result in an immediate General Election.

Under the now-repealed Fixed Term Parliaments Act, the Prime Minister needed to pass a vote to hold a national poll.

However, Dissolution & Calling of Parliament Act restored the ability to call a General Election to the Prime Minister via the Royal Prerogative.

A House of Commons confidence could theoretically force a General Election, although the composition of Parliament makes such a scenario incredibly unlikely.

Starmer entered No10 off the back of a huge landslide, giving the Prime Minister a so-called super-majority in the Commons.

However, Starmer narrowly avoided a shock parliamentary defeat last month after rebels plotted to revolt over his now-axed proposals to slash £5billion from Britain's ballooning benefits bill.

The last time a Prime Minister was defeated in a confidence vote came in 1979, when James Callaghan lost by one vote ahead of Margaret Thatcher's first General Election victory.

There have only been two other confidence votes lost by the Government in the House of Commons over the course of the 20th century - with Stanley Baldwin and Ramsay MacDonald both suffering defeats in 1924.

Both Boris Johnson and Theresa May more recently avoided Commons humiliation by seeing off no confidence votes with majorities of 109 and 19 respectively.

Despite not being expected to face any parliamentary pressures to hold a General Election, Starmer has been warned his own seat of Holborn & St Pancras is being targeted by disgraced former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

A source close to Corbyn told GB News: "At the last election, Starmer lost almost 20,000 votes amid a strong challenge by independent progressive Andrew Feinstein, who came second with 19 per cent of the vote.

"Next time around, with a longer campaign, more resourcing and Starmer's colossal unpopularity, a big upset is more than possible."

Another Corbyn ally added: "There is a huge appetite for real change and genuinely progressive politics in Holborn & St Pancras but decisions on target areas and wider strategy will be made following the party’s founding conference."

However, Tories might also be fearful of potentially being wiped out by Reform UK, with sources close to Nigel Farage even pointing out that a top candidate will challenge Kemi Badenoch in North West Essex.

Discussing the prospect of Starmer and Badenoch losing their seats, Merlin Strategy founder Scarlett Maguire told the People's Channel: "At the moment, it's underpriced that if both Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch are in place, they both lose their seats."
