Kemi Badenoch said that she "disagrees" with Katherine's pointed question

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch faced intense scrutiny from GB News political correspondent Katherine Forster during a speech about immigration and the European Convention on Human Rights.

During the fierce questioning after the speech, Katherine Forster said: "Isn't this all much too little, much too late?

"The public seem to be listening to Nigel Farage. They also seem to be listening to Robert Jenrick.

"They don't really seem to be listening to you though, do they?"

Kemi Badenoch responded: "I disagree, Katherine. How can it be too little, too late? We are not in government.

"The Labour Party is in government. They're not doing this. Just last week, you heard what Lord Hermer was saying. We're going to have four more years of that.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"Simply shouting out announcements like Nigel Farage is doing is not serious. That's not a plan. Has he looked at any of these conventions?

"Do they have the competence, the experience, the expertise? We have it because there are many people sitting in this room who try to do things.

"It wasn't working, and many of these problems have got worse in recent years, like small boats. We are not the only country dealing with this."

She added: "I want us to do is something serious and proper. Just going on TV and making noise is not governing. Quite frankly, I'm tired of hearing politicians make promises they don't know how to deliver.

"That is not my style. I'm not going to tell anyone in this country that I'm doing something unless I know exactly how to do it. The Conservative Party needs to learn, needs to earn the trust of the public again.

"Earning trust starts by being honest, showing your homework, and doing it in a way that people have confidence in you, not just rushing out with a whole new agenda.

"They need to see that the party has changed. That is going to take time, and I'm going to use that time properly."

WATCH IN FULL: Kemi Badenoch slams ECHR for 'attacking democratic decisions and common sense'

The fierce exchange occurred during a speech in which Badenoch outlined her position on immigration and international treaties.

She claimed that Britain is being "mugged" by immigration and called for a comprehensive review of the UK's relationship with the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Conservative leader argued that the ECHR has evolved from its original purpose and now serves as a tool to challenge democratically made decisions.

She suggested the treaty creates obstacles for effective border control measures, prompting her announcement of plans to investigate potential withdrawal.
