A source claimed Corbyn could take dissatisfied voters from Starmer

Jeremy Corbyn has been tipped to decide in just “weeks” whether to launch a new political movement to rival Keir Starmer’s Labour Party.

According to friends of the former Labour leader, Corbyn could launch a new party which could take voters dissatisfied with the current Labour Party away from Starmer.

Sir Keir has faced weeks of backlash over his stance on the Israel-Hamas war which has left some voters, especially Muslims, feeling betrayed.

Corbyn’s party could aim to be an “anti-war movement” which would appeal to Muslim voters who expressed fury when Starmer refused to initially back a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza.

Voters could also be swayed by Starmer’s backtracking on environmental pledges.

“There's many people concerned about what's happening in Gaza, not just Muslim voters,” insiders told Mail Online.

“But it would be wider than that.

“It could tap into environmental concerns with Starmer now backtracking on his commitment to spend £28billion a year greening the country.

“Jeremy has a name recognition on the streets Starmer can only dream of.”

Corbyn was previously banned from standing as a Labour candidate following an antisemitism row in the party while he was leader.

He has instead been tipped to run as an independent at the next election in his Islington North seat.

One friend of Corbyn continued to say that he was seriously considering launching a new political party and added that his “anti-war movement” would “resonate across the country”.

They added that the former Labour leader was now unlikely to stand as a candidate to be London Mayor this May.

Labour insiders had previously told The Mail on Sunday that Starmer’s chief of staff, Sue Gray, thought his early response to the conflict in the Middle East was too “anti-Palestinian”.

However, Labour denied that Gray had disagreed with Starmer’s stance on Gaza.

Starmer critics warned that a movement led by Corbyn would be “Labour’s Reform” adding that it could split party support akin to Richard Tice’s party dividing Tory voters.
