Lord Glasman, who made the claim, also warned of how people 'see the Labour Government to be a front organisation for paedophiles and Pakistani rape gangs'

No10 is said to have ignored warnings over Lord Mandelson's relationship with disgraced paedophile Jeffrey Epstein when he was appointed the British Ambassador to the United States.

Senior Labour peer Lord Glasman told GB News that he 'sent the alert' to Downing Street over his concerns with Mr Mandelson.

Speaking on Chopper's Political Podcast, Lord Glasman said: "I obviously had to meet a lot of Maga people, and they would just show me photographs of Peter Manson blowing out the birthday candles with Jeffrey Epstein.

"I sent the alert, the alarm messages saying think about this [appointing Mandelson]. But he has, he was considered the right man to do the trade deal."

Officials in the Foreign Office also advised against the selection of the Labour peer, who had previously resigned twice from the Cabinet amid past controversies, a Whitehall insider said.

The Prime Minister came under fire on Tuesday for defending his decision to appoint Lord Mandelson to the top diplomatic role, despite his referring to Epstein as his "best pal" in a 2003 birthday message to the disgraced financier.

It was also revealed that the former Business Secretary had brokered a £1billion deal with Epstein, despite knowing he had been convicted of child sex offences.

No10 emphasised that Lord Mandelson had undergone “extensive vetting and background checks” to confirm he posed no security risk in the lead up to his appointment in February.

It was later revealed that Downing Street overlooked the final warning from Lord Glasman, who was the only Labour representative present at President Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.

In a memo written just one day before the inauguration, Lord Glasman cautioned that appointing the Labour grandee could upset senior Republicans, who were already wary of the Labour Government.

The Blue Labour heavyweight also revealed that he had been presented a photograph of Lord Mandelson with Epstein during his birthday where he was depicted blowing out candles on a cake.

When asked by GB News' Political Editor, Christopher Hope, if he "warned" No10 about Mandelson, Lord Glasman said: "Well, I just told them what people were coming up to me with their phones like this. Go look at it."

Lord Glasman also confirmed that he did not tell the Prime Minister personally, but did inform "people around him".

The caution was ignored by Downing Street, who appointed him to his Washington role just weeks later.

HOUSE OF LORDS

Three Labour MPs have called on the Prime Minister to axe Lord Mandelson from his diplomatic duties entirely.

Bell Ribeiro-Addy, Kim Johnson and one anonymous MP urged Sir Keir to sack the "complicit" Lord Mandelson following the further details of his ties to Epstein were revealed in a US court.

However, the Prime Minister threw his support behind him during PMQs on Wednesday, saying: "The ambassador has repeatedly expressed his deep regret for his association with him, he's right to do so, I have confidence in him and he's playing an important role in the UK-US relationship."

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch joined the calls for the Prime Minister to take action, saying at PMQs: "These are sickening revelations. Mandelson's position is untenable. Why did Starmer defend him today? How was 'full due process followed'?

"This is a weak Prime Minister, leading a Government mired in scandal. The public deserves better. Peter Mandelson needs to be fired now."

Email exchanges between the pair leaked by The Sun showed Lord Mandelson telling Epstein after his child sex offences conviction in 2008: "I think the world of you, and I feel hopeless and furious about what has happened.

"I can still barely understand it. It just could not happen in Britain. You have to be incredibly resilient, fight for early release and be philosophical about it as much as you can."

In an interview with Harry Cole, Lord Mandelson said: "I feel a tremendous sense, a profound sense of sympathy for those people, those women, who suffer as a result of his behaviour and his illegal criminal activities.

"I regret very much that I fell for his lies, I fell for and accepted assurances that he had given me about his indictment, his original criminal case in Florida, like very many people, I took at face value what he said with hindsight, with fresh information, many years later, we realised that we had been wrong to believe in is a charismatic criminal liar."
