GB News has looked at the career of the new Reform UK chairman

TV presenter turned MEP Dr David Bull has been named as Reform UK’s new chairman.

The former medical doctor was announced as the party’s chairman at a press conference in Westminster, replacing Zia Yusuf who resigned from the position last week..

To assume the position, Bull has stepped down from his position as a weekend breakfast presenter on TalkTV.Bull stated he was "deeply honoured" to be invited to serve as chairman.

He described Reform's volunteers as "the lifeblood of this party" and expressed that he would leverage his role to "show some love to all those people".

Bull commended Yusuf, noting that he "has done an extraordinary job" and "professionalised the party beyond belief".

Nigel Farage said Bull would come to the chairman’s role with "terrific verve, energy, enthusiasm", adding: "It’s going to be great fun."

How will he steward the party? To answer that question, GB News has taken a dive into Bull's varied career from junior doctor to CBBC Newsround contributor to MEP in Brussels.

Originally from London, David Bull moved to Suffolk at a young age. He qualified as a physician in 1993 from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London.

He went on to work at St Mary’s Hospital, Ealing Hospital and the Whittington Hospital, all in central London.

While he gave up his medical career in 2009 to focus on his media appearances, he had his licence to practise temporarily restored in March 2020 in response to the covid-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom.

Bull started his broadcasting career in 1995 as an on-screen doctor for Sky TV and Sky Travel, giving advice to British tourists.

He would later join CBBC's Newsround as a health correspondent, becoming a regular on the children's wing of the broadcaster, appearing on programmes including Saturday Aardvark and K Club.

Bull then moved on to regular appearances on consumer and technology programmes Tomorrow's World and Watchdog as well as paranormal investigation show Most Haunted Live!

In 2006, Bull was picked as the candidate for the Conservative Party in Brighton Pavilion in 2010. However, he withdrew his candidacy in June 2009 and was replaced by Charlotte Vere, who lost the seat to future Green Party leader Caroline Lucas.

After the EU referendum in 2016, he joined Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party in 2019 and became an MEP for the North West of England.

He was adopted as the Brexit Party's prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC) for Sedgefield, famously held by former Prime Minister Tony Blair in the 2019 general election, where he would finish third behind the Conservatives' Paul Howell and Labour's Phil Wilson.

At last year's General Election, he stood in disgraced former Health Secretary Matt Hancock's West Suffolk seat at last year's general election, finishing third behind the Tories' Nick Timothy.

He is an open supporter of Donald Trump, and wore an ear bandage in solidarity with the US president following the assassination attempt on the Republican.
