Starmer has called the deal a 'win-win' that gives Britain 'unprecedented access to the EU market'

Ben Habib has launched a scathing attack on the UK-EU reset deal, describing it as a "sellout of the United Kingdom" that undermines British sovereignty.

The deal, which Starmer has called a "win-win" that gives Britain "unprecedented access to the EU market," has faced criticism from Brexit supporters who see it as a betrayal of the UK's independence.

The reset deal, announced on Monday, represents the most significant change in UK-EU relations since Brexit.

It includes a defence and security pact that will allow Britain to participate in joint procurement and potentially access the EU's €150billion programme to re-arm Europe.

The agreement also aims to reduce red tape for food and agricultural producers, which the government claims will make food cheaper and add approximately £9bn to the UK economy by 2040.

Speaking about the deal on GB News, Habib said: "Yesterday was a sellout of the United Kingdom. And of course, I mustn’t forget our fisheries, where, you know, the period of time before the deal can be theoretically unpicked has been extended by 12 years.

"It was remarkable to me that, in defending the position on the fisheries, lots of commentators said, ‘Well, fishing only contributes 0.03 per cent of GDP.’ Well, there's a reason for that, it's because we've given all our fish away to the European Union.

"But yesterday was a really sad day for those of us who voted to leave the EU. It's been a sad process, frankly, for those of us who voted to leave."

He added: "When this comes into fruition, we will be inextricably linked, enmeshed in the EU framework for defence.

"We won’t be able to operate our weaponry without their blessing. That’s how dangerous this is to the United Kingdom."

The businessman fumed: "The European Union isn’t about the promotion of independent militaries of member states across Europe coming together to cooperate. It’s about bringing it all together into one body, one military force, under Brussels’ direction.

"We mustn't forget this. No matter how hollowed out our military is, it is still the best military in Europe by miles. They should be paying us to join in.

"But, in perfect British government style, we’ve managed to give away the baby, and we’ve paid for the privilege of giving it away. It’s absolutely absurd."

His comments echo concerns raised by other Brexit supporters, including Nigel Farage, who called the deal an "abject surrender" and "the end of the fishing industry."

The Conservative Party, which oversaw the original Brexit negotiations, has also criticised the agreement, with Lord Frost describing it as conceding "important British interests for very little in return."

Frost warned that the deal "begins the process of bit by bit bringing this country back into the embrace of the single market and customs union."

The legal texts of the agreement will take months to finalise, with critics concerned that further concessions may emerge during this process.
