Almost 400 MPs voted in favour of decriminalising abortions after 24 weeks on Tuesday

GB News host Emily Carver has expressed her outrage at the decision by MPs to vote in favour of decriminalising abortion past 24 weeks, branding the decision "appalling".

Discussing the historic change in reproductive rights, the pregnant People's Channel presenter hit out at the vote, questioning "why" such legislation was passed.

Emily told GB News viewers: "I don't think it got enough attention this, and I think people are waking up today looking at what's happened and thinking, why? Why has this happened?

"Where has the demand for this change come? Where are all these women who want to be able to be free to abort their baby beyond 24 weeks up until term?"

Fearing for the welfare of unborn babies who may be impacted by the change in law, Emily stated: "Surely the rights of the baby have to count for something."

Citing two cases which lead to the vote being put to Parliament, Emily explained: "It seems to all be based on two quite particular cases that happened during the pandemic, as a result of a change in care because women were sent the pills in the post and then illegally, took them very late term.

"And now there's this massive push to remove any sanction at all."

Cohost Tom Harwood then added: "The people in favour of this say that they're not legalising abortion, they are decriminalising the action of women.

"It would still be illegal for a doctor to carry out an abortion later than 24 weeks, but then if a woman wanted to take pills to do it herself, that would carry no legal sanction."

Highlighting the "risks" that a woman will face in that vulnerable situation, Emily said: "Also, it's a traumatic thing for a woman to do, and by essentially saying it's okay, I think you're putting women at risk as well.

"It's a pretty traumatic thing to have to essentially birth a baby beyond that time. It's just appalling, and I think people hadn't really thought about this."

Suggesting that some female MPs may have perceived this as a "feminist issue" to take action on, Emily explained: "I think there are some women in Parliament who think that this is a feminist issue, being able to abort your baby up to term.

"And I, for one, just don't see it that way. I'm sorry, a baby has rights too. There are obviously some extreme circumstances, where perhaps this should be allowed, but..."

Delivering his verdict, Tom said he "doesn't see what problem this is solving" by decriminalising abortions.

Tom concluded: "The thing is, there were already exemptions where if the mother's health was at risk, if something was really wrong with the baby, then you could legally do this already.

"I just don't see what problem this is solving."
