There is no better illustration of the failure of our politicians to get to grips with Channel migration than what happened yesterday to a flotilla of ships that had set out from Ramsgate to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the great wartime moment for our nation: the rescue of British forces from Dunkirk.
All was going well for the 65 “Little Ships” when an order came from our Border Force and the French Navy telling the flotilla to change course and create a one-nautical-mile exclusion zone.
Who could be that important? Surely David Lammy wasn’t floating past? The answer was more shocking than that.
It turned out the flotilla had to make way for a single boat. But that single boat contained migrants, and they mustn’t be inconvenienced in any way.

These days, not only are the French turning a blind eye to these illegals heading our way, they (and us) are now giving them a clear run at Dover.
No matter if you want to make a special thank you to those who made the Dunkirk evacuation possible — you will be forced to make way for those who will shortly be saying a big thank you to the UK welfare system.
To my mind, it’s a symbol of the power the Channel migrants have over our political masters. We’re not sending them back - we are making their paths easier.
If that doesn’t make you angry, I am sure you will be furious to learn that illegal Channel crossings will hit a record this year - anywhere between 45,000 and 50,000. A town the size of Esher in Surrey, Batley in Yorkshire, or Bromsgrove in Worcestershire.
Incredible that Starmer or Badenoch wouldn’t be shouting from the rooftops against this invasion. We - they - have been numbed by the influx.
The man making the record prediction is Dr Richard Wood, a researcher with a PhD in maths, who has been specialising in this modelling over the last few years - and has been right.
He has been bang on the money even this year, with him predicting 12,074 migrants arriving by May 15, and Home Office figures turning out to be 12,699 - a staggering 31% up on last year.

The migrants like Starmer and his Labour chums, as they know there is no chance of being sent to Rwanda to cool their heels while the government decides if they are to be allowed to stay.
What is it that stops politicians (either Boris, Rishi, or Sir Keir) doing the right thing with the migrants?
I saw a number of £15 billion as the annual cost of housing the migrants. That is a helluva lot of money which, if it applied to any other unnecessary expense, would face the chop — or, at a minimum, almost hourly scrutiny.
But migrant costs get a free pass.
I am hopeful that when Nigel Farage becomes Prime Minister - in a pact with a new leader of the Tory party (probably Jenrick) - he carries out his promise of turning back the boats to France. It will lead to an unholy row and possibly even skirmishes, but the price will be worth it.
We can’t carry on like this. The nation can’t afford it, and the public are beyond angry about it.
It’s a shame we must wait four years to have this moment, but if Labour win again it will be sometime never. At that moment, the culture and colour of the country will change forever. And only a Socialist would want that.
