What’s happening in Europe is actually very good for us. The likes of Sajid Javid and Boris Johnson will be keeping an eye on the unfolding chaos and growing civil unrest and thinking – we simply can’t have that over here

The people have reached breaking point. They have had enough. There is a dangerous tidal wave sweeping Europe at the moment, and it’s not Covid. Not for the first time, it appears continental Europe has succumbed to authoritarianism. Some would say, borderline fascism.
In the Netherlands police opened fire on anti-lockdown protesters. They have not yet clarified if they used live ammunition or rubber bullets. Let that sink in. This weekend saw 40,000 protesters take to the streets in Vienna, rioting in Rotterdam, water cannons pelted tens of thousands of protesters in Brussels after demonstrators smashed the glass at the entrance to a European Commission building. There were demonstrations in Italy, Denmark, Switzerland. Why? Well, because enough is enough.
Austria is introducing mandatory vaccinations, Germany appears to be following suit, lockdowns are sweeping the continent, especially for the unvaccinated. In Greece, unvaccinated people will be banned from indoor venues, including restaurants, cinemas, museums and gyms. In Slovakia, the country’s prime minister announced a “lockdown for the unvaccinated”.
Just look at what the ruling elites are trying to do now – they’re using the language of demonisation against protesters. They say they’re dangerous, they’re fanatics, they’re far-right.
The dangerous, fanatical far right are actually the leaders of countries imposing mandatory vaccinations on their citizens, without actually saying how they’re going to administer them – will it be never-ending lockdown for the unvaccinated, will people be strapped to a chair and jabbed against their will?
The dangerous, fanatical far-right are the leaders who stood by as police fired on protesters. They’re the ones with the water cannons, they’re the ones imposing vaccine passports on an entire population after rigged vote. This is authoritarianism. This is dangerous. And it’s happening before our eyes.
People often call us little Englanders, but that’s simply not true. I’m sure there are millions of us waking up this morning expressing a deep solidarity with our European friends who are fronting up to the crushing reality that their supposedly lovely, fluffy, liberal continental leaders, are dangerous authoritarians.
But there is another important point here. It’s pretty clear that Boris Johnson and this government, and our medical so-called experts, didn’t get everything right. That goes without saying, but when we look across the Channel now, aren’t you glad that you’re here and not there? I think what’s happening in Europe is actually very good for us. The likes of Sajid Javid and Boris Johnson will be keeping an eye on the unfolding chaos and growing civil unrest and thinking – we simply can’t have that over here.
What does that mean? Well, hopefully, it’s put a nail in the coffin for mandatory vaccinations and it’s put a nail in the coffin for significant restrictions going forward. Boris is embroiled in a sleaze scandal, he’s failed to control illegal immigration, he’s forced us to sign up to a big green agenda that we’re yet to be consulted about…he simply wouldn’t survive politically if we had another lockdown or forced jabs. He just wouldn’t.
Credit where credit is due – this government has managed to do what many European counterparts have not – procure enough vaccines for the population, ensure there is a booster scheme and, crucially, manage to convince enough of the population to get the vaccine voluntarily. The UK has completed 15 million booster doses, with 25 per cent of over-12s covered. There is no need for mandatory vaccinations.
Anyone who listens to me witter on every day will know I’ve been scathing about our medical community at times, but I do sincerely hope that actually doctors in this country would simply not enforce a mandatory jab. I think there’s a line there – and when you start inoculating people against their will, I think that’s the time when most GPs and medical professionals would just say no.
Don’t get me wrong, we still have issues. Technically Sajid Javid is still holding Christmas to ransom and there is still the scaremongering - I saw an absolute classic reported over the weekend. There is a dangerous new, symptomless Covid variant. Symptomless.
Well, forgive me for not being terrified of something you and I simply won’t feel or be affected by.
Things aren’t perfect here – but have a look at continental Europe this morning, have a look at what their leaders are doing and just think – firstly, we’re lucky to be in Britain, but secondly, we must remain vigilant.
We can never allow that to happen to us.
