So, Keir Starmer is taking the knee again – this time it’s to the leader of the free world, Donald Trump, who told the groveller when he rang to try to kiss and make up: “We don’t need people to join wars we’ve already won.”
Was The Donald right to kick Starmer in the goolies after his pathetic attempt to put right him initially rejecting requests for the use of two air bases? You bet he was!
He’s lucky Trump even took his call.
The bottom line is the special relationship is still – and possibly forever- where Starmer so carelessly threw it - in the toilet, which is why it’s incredible that Government officials are now saying the King should delay his visit to the US (to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary) until tensions between the President and Starmer have subsided.
NO! NO!NO! - that’s exactly what he must not do. The fact is, the King’s relationship with Trump is now more important than it ever was. Not to put too fine a point on it, King Charles is currently the only Briton alive who can save the special relationship.
And to those here who despise Trump and say to Hell with the special relationship – well, they’re as stupid and as short-sighted as Starmer is.
Because we love him or loathe Donald Trump and the US are vital to the safety and security of this country. Yes, he says stupid things, yes, he can be a boor, yes, he’s bombastic and can be a bully, but the bottom line is that we need him.
As one former defence chief said last week: “The UK is only kept safe by three things - nuclear weapons, Nato and having the U.S as an ally.”
Now, thanks to Starmer’s cowardice and his political illiteracy, we’re in danger of losing all three.
In just two short weeks, Starmer has destroyed what was left of the special relationship, and only the King can fix it because he’s precisely the kind of man Trump would listen to.

Yes, they’re very different and have opposing views, but Trump adores King Charles and recently called him “a very, very special man”, saying, “He epitomises the fortitude, nobility and spirit of the British people”.
He also said he knew Charles was “entirely motivated by a desperate desire to put the great back into Great Britain”.
So Yes, let him go work his diplomatic magic on Trump and get Britain back in the ball game.
Of course, we all know Trump’s admiration for Charles is because he’s a King who presides over an Institution that Trump is totally in awe of.
The monarchy is probably the only thing he sees as bigger and more impressive than his own presidency. And so, he respects it. He also respects the man at the head of it.
Which is why Trump would listen to Charles in a way he’d never listen to or tolerate Starmer.
Trump sees that Charles affords him respect, but not in the toadying way Starmer has done. And he doesn’t just admire Charles’ position as King of the realm, he admires his dignity, his stoicism, his intellect - all the things The Donald lacks.
On his last state visit, the President said in his toast: “On behalf of all Americans, I offer a toast to one of the great friendships. Together, we have done more good for humanity than any two countries in history."
And that's why the King is the only one who can sort out Starmer’s mess.
And let’s face it, Trump’s vanity would be flattered that he was trying, and his ego would be flattered at doing the King of England a favour.
As for those saying Charles should be politically neutral. Well, by rights he should, but the fact is all his life he’s been politically active, firing off missives to MPs, ministers and Prime Ministers telling them to heed what he says.
Who cares if Charles has to flatter Trump’s ego? Who cares if Trump loves the pomp and circumstance of the Monarchy and will do anything to be even the tiniest part of it?
All that matters here is the special relationship and that it endures.
And if Charles has flown to the US and schmoozed Trump, so what? It’s ultimately what politics and politicking are all about, isn’t it? Making something happen that initially doesn’t seem possible.
More importantly, Trump’s attraction to royalty will give Charles an advantage in dealing with Trump that neither Starmer nor any UK politician will ever have.
The fact is, Starmer is an embarrassment to this country, and Trump wants nothing to do with him. His actions these past two weeks have shamed us in the eyes of the world, and he’s now seen on the global stage as a Yellow Belly, a man who runs from conflict, who can’t make decisions and who abandons his allies.
The King, on the other hand, is seen as a huge credit to Britain. He’s a man of dignity, of compassion and of passionately held beliefs.
He’s also a moral man who believes in doing the right thing – the total antithesis of Starmer.
Of course, the Prime Minister doesn’t deserve to be rescued or have his mess neutralised by the King, but the British people do. Which is why it’s absolutely vital King Charles and Queen Camilla go to the US, no matter what Government advisors are saying.
And when they get there, they must dazzle and flatter and show Trump and the Americans the very best face of this country.
The King is Britain’s diplomatic ace card (he’s our only ace card), and if anyone can repair the damage our gutless PM has done, he can!
And we must let him.
