Kelvin MacKenzie delivers his take on the day's top stories

It’s the best part of three months since we have seen the Princess of Wales. And we genuinely miss her. Or at least 99.999999999% of us do. On the evidence, there must be a major question mark on how Meghan feels.

I say this following quotes which appeared in the Page Six column of the New York Post attributed to ‘’sources close to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’’ about the photoshopping mishap.

Page Six is an important and upscale gossip column and when it breaks a story it whistles round the world. I’m a big fan as I was managing editor of The New York Post when the column launched. It’s been a massive success and is used by the public relations people of the rich and famous when they want to get a story away as it’s a letter box for the global media.

And these were the quotes from the sources to reporter Sara Nathan; ‘’This isn’t a mistake Meghan would ever make.’’

Well done them. Never made a mistake. So bloody pleased with themselves.

Then the ‘’sources’’ complained that there was a double standard saying; ‘’If Harry and Meghan had ever encountered the same issue they would have been annihilated. The same rules do not apply to both couples.

‘’This isn’t a mistake that Meghan would ever make. She has a keen eye and a freakish attention to detail.’’ Frankly, we are lucky to have known those couples of geniuses. Surprised they didn’t charge us for the pleasure.

Clearly Kate has been, and may well still be, quite unwell. Would you, or any of your friends or family, go on the record to say something so cruel about your sister-in-law when you know she is not well enough to even be seen at the school gates?

So here’s the twist. People like me were appalled at the quotes and said so on social media. On seeing the push back Meghan and Harry’s official PRs put on their reverse cycling clips.

They said; ‘’With respect to Page Six they did not come from us.’’ What an odd quote. When did you ever hear PRs refer to a tabloid gossip column as ‘’with respect’’.

So where did the New York Post get these sources and quotes from? If you look at the history of Page Six you will discover for years they have been a mouthpiece for Meghan’s views.

This time was different because instead of her thoughts being warmly received they were considered, rightly, cruel, unkind and a sense that the couple were pleased that the photoshopping had in some odd way knocked Kate off her perch.

I don’t think Meghan and Harry get it. They are actively disliked by the majority of British people whereas Kate is No.1 in the Royal Family. Her smile, her ability to get on with the public, her hard work means people really love her.

And, unlike Diana she is not divisive. In the Diana days you were either a Diana fan or a Diana enemy. There was no in-between. Kate is different. We all warm to her.

Those quotes from the Post betrayed a real sense of jealousy and competition from across the Atlantic. It will confirm our view of Meghan and confirm how lucky we are to have Kate.

Appalling Gordon Brown gives us a hint of the Labour madness we're set for

The appalling Gordon Brown who, when he was booted out of office, one of his Treasury ministers left a note saying ‘’there’s no money left’’ is now putting himself forward as worrying about the nation’s economic future.

This is what he said: ‘’We need to think with almost military precision about how we can put our economy on a war footing.’’

I might accept that from some politicians but certainly not from Gordon Brown who when Chancellor thought it would be a good idea to sell half our gold reserves. Why was never explained.

As you might expect when a Socialist deals in investment (look at Birmingham City council or Nottinghamshire County Council. Both bankrupt, both Labour)) it was a disaster.

He sold at $275 an ounce netting $3.5billion whereas today you would get $2,175 an ounce pulling in a handy $28billion.

I think we could do with that extra $24.5billion right now, don’t you?

Expect more of this madness when Starmer comes to power in November. Watch taxes go further though the roof and economic madness abound. It’s what Labour does.
