I want George to grow up feeling proud of his country, writes the GB News presenter

Some of you may have spotted that I was back on your screens on Sunday!

After five months on maternity leave with baby George, I returned to the studio to stand in for Michael Portillo – and what a week to come back to! Could we have a new Prime Minister soon rather than later?

I have to admit, I felt a little bit nervous walking back into the studio after being away from the action for so long. So, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who tuned in and sent such kind, supportive messages.

It made the transition feel so much easier. I even had Patrick and George there for moral support, watching from the green room. I wonder if he recognised his mum on the telly...must’ve been a tad confusing for the little guy!

After getting a taste of it all again, I can confirm I’ve got the GB News bug back. This afternoon, I'll join Tom in my usual seat on Good Afternoon Britain.

It will be great to catch up and hear his take on all the political drama over the past few weeks. I think he might have missed me… don’t you?

For those who’ve been asking about George, he’s doing beautifully. As I write this, he’s rolling around on his playmat, clutching a copy of the Nursery Times, beaming up at me with his gummy little smile. (No teeth just yet, but clearly a keen interest in current affairs!)

GB News

It’s hard to sum up these first few months of motherhood. The intensity of the birth, the endless cuddles, the sleepless nights and midnight feeds, that slightly surreal first walk around the park with a newborn in tow… the worry, the joy, the exhaustion, the overwhelming love. You really do feel every emotion under the sun, and sometimes all at once.

One thing’s for sure, having George has made the work we do at GB News feel more important than ever. The stakes feel higher.

I want him to grow up feeling proud of his country – and that makes what we do feel all the more meaningful.
