A woman's head has been found severed at the University of Warsaw following an axe attack on Wednesday evening.
Police discovered the gruesome scene shortly before 7pm at the city centre university.
An axe was found close to the scene of the attack, which also left a security guard injured.
The incident prompted a lockdown of the university campus that remains in place, according to reports on social media.

The woman who was killed worked as a porter at the university, according to Polsat News.
A spokesman for the district prosecutor's office confirmed that a female administrative employee had been killed at the scene.
The security guard was taken to hospital in critical condition following the attack.
Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba told Interia there were "two injured parties" following "an action by a third party" on the university grounds.

Police said the attacker was a 22-year-old Polish man who was detained by authorities.
The suspect entered the campus earlier on Wednesday and "attacked the people there with an axe", according to Warsaw police.
Officials said the man had entered an auditorium at the university before launching the attack.
