A VE Day parade in Moscow only consisted of one tank on display

Vladimir Putin has admitted Russia is going through a "difficult period" during a speech to celebrate its victory over Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

Russia honours its success every year with Victory Day, however the parade in the Moscow only consisted of one


Addressing the crowd, the Russian leader said his combat forces were "always ready" but the country was suffering a "difficult period".

One tank was present during the 79th anniversary event as Moscow continues to push resources to its war in Ukraine.

A similar scene was seen last year, with just a single tank on display.

Speaking to the parade, Putin said: "Today on Victory Day we are conscious of that even more acutely.

"Our strategic forces are always combat ready."

He added that the "future of the motherland depends on us".

The Russian leader said will do everything it can to avoid global confrontation, but would not allow anyone to threaten it.

It comes after he instructed the Russian Ministry of Defence to conduct a test of non-strategical nuclear weapons earlier this week.

In a dramatic escalation of tensions between Russia and the West, the Russian president made the order in response to “Western aggression”.

He added that the exercises were also aimed at protecting Russian sovereignty.

As he concluded his speech yesterday, he said: "For Russia! For victory! Hurrah!".

In response, thousands of soldiers cheered.

Rows of military vehicles and missiles roll across Red Square every year as squadrons of fighter jets roar above.
