The US President has also threatened Moscow with economic sanctions

Donald Trump has urged Volodymyr Zelensky to make Vladimir Putin "feel the pain" by bombing Moscow and St Petersburg.

During a call to the Ukrainian President, Trump reportedly said: "Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow? Can you hit St Petersburg too?"

Zelensky replied: “Absolutely. We can if you give us the weapons.”

The US President described the potential strike as a way to “make them feel the pain".

He suggested this aggressive approach could force the Kremlin into a ceasefire as Trump increases his efforts to bring the European conflict to a conclusion.

Trump has also threatened Moscow with economic sanctions, pledging to hit Russia with 100 per cent tariffs if Putin doesn’t agree to a peace deal within 50 days.

Details of long-range weapons, including the Tomahawk cruise missile and the Army Tactical Missile System, were shared with Zelensky in Rome during meetings with US defence officials and Nato intermediaries.

The European Nato Ally has already deployed the advanced weaponry in Russian-occupied regions.

Donald Trump has urged Volodymyr Zelensky to make Vladimir Putin "feel the pain" by bombing Moscow and St Petersburg

Trump, who appears willing to use a loophole to bypass the congressional freeze on direct US military aid, has expressed his "disappointment" with Putin, as the President has grown increasingly frustrated with Moscow's lack of compromise on peace.

The proposed idea involves selling US equipment to European allies, who will transfer it to Ukraine.

Trump previously said: “I’m disappointed in President Putin. I thought we would have had a deal two months ago.

"We are very, very unhappy with [Russia], and we’re going to be doing very severe tariffs.”

The US President described the potential strike as a way to 'make them feel the pain'

Russia has unleashed its heaviest strikes on Ukraine since the start of the war, hitting Lutsk and Ternopil in the west of Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attacks as "demonstrative".

Warehouses in the Kyiv region were set on fire after Russian drones and missiles also hit them.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Lutsk was the worst hit, however, 10 other regions were also damaged.

He said, "most targets were shot down" with Ukraine's interceptor drones deployed.

Zelensky said: "There are dozens of hits, we are scaling up the technology.

"Mobile fire groups were also working – we also had dozens of hits. Thank you to all the soldiers for their accuracy."

The Ukrainian President said it was a "demonstrative attack" and while there had been "many attempts to achieve peace" along with a ceasefire, it was Russia which "rejects everything".
