British passenger Vishwash Kumar Ramesh is claimed to be one of the survivors

GB News Home and Security Editor Mark White has hailed the "astonishing" update in the Air India plane crash after a British survivor emerged from the crash.

A London-bound Air India aircraft crashed to the ground just minutes after takeoff in Ahmedabad, carrying 242 people including crew members.

Following previous reports from police claiming there appeared to be "no survivors" of the tragedy, local reports have confirmed the identity of one of the surviving passengers.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, is a British-Indian passenger who was returning to the UK after a visit. It is claimed he had taken the flight with his brother, who he is trying to find.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik was quoted as saying police found "one survivor in seat 11A".

Ramesh reportedly told media from his hospital bed: "Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly."

Discussing the latest revelation in the Air India crash, Mark White told GB News that the discovery is simply "astonishing".

Mark explained: "Astonishing news has come through now from the police, who have been speaking to local reporters, saying that they believe two survivors have now been found from this Air India 787 aircraft.

"One survivor was found at the scene of the impact of this aircraft, and another survivor, it seems, has been found at the hospital, and had been taken to the hospital among dozens of other people who were injured on the ground."

Noting that one of the survivors was directly on the aircraft, later identified as Ramesh, Mark added: "It seems now that the indications are that this person was not someone injured on the ground, but someone who was on the aircraft."

Highlighting the ever-changing developments of the crash, Mark noted that although previous reports had claimed there appeared to be "no survivors" from the aircraft, there is "always the chance of a miracle".

Mark told GB News hosts Tom Harwood and Emily Carver: "Earlier, of course, we brought you that news from the police commissioner in Ahmedabad who said that they believed the all indications were there were no survivors on this aircraft.

"But we did see that people can will hope that there's always this chance of a miracle."

Mark concluded: "We've got to just put the caveat out there, sometimes those reports are subject to change, depending on what a particular police chief has been told from the scene.

"But certainly an encouraging piece of news indicating that one survivor has been found at the scene of this plane crash, and that another survivor may have been found among the injured in hospital."
