Speaking at the scene, LA Fire Department captain Adam Van Gerpen stated: "This morning, about 2am, firefighters were dispatched out to a traffic accident.

"On arrival, they found that we had a multi-casualty incident with a number of victims on scene. Our firefighters quickly realised we had a large number of patients, so we called for additional resources.

"Apparently, there was a vehicle which had somebody who lost consciousness inside the vehicle and drove into a taco cart, and then ultimately ran into a large number of people who were outside a club in East Hollywood."

Eyewitness Juliet Bretches told the channel she said two people were shot and two others run over by the car.

Bretches said: "I live over here and I heard the gunshot. I looked out and saw a guy crash into the people, so I ran over."

The eyewitness claimed the car "deliberately" drove into the crowd, with the driver being held by security as the scene.

Bretches added that she saw the driver bleeding as he exited the wrecked car.
