A heckler interrupted the president's speech at the the Union train station in Washington DC

Joe Biden became flustered as he told a heckler to "shush up" before joking that the man could probably "take" him in a fight.

A heckler interrupted the president's speech at the the Union train station in Washington DC as he spoke about his American Rescue Plan which had the "biggest investment in childcare ever".


The man intervened as Biden discussed "care workers recognition month".

Responding to the heckler, he said: "I tell you what - You want to come make a speech or shush up, okay?"

Biden added: "He looks like he could take me," as the crowd of supporters began to laugh.

After becoming flustered, the president moved on and proceeded with his remarks.

Biden held the official event at Union Station, where he said it was time to "expire" Republicans who allowed an expanded child tax credit to lapse.

The president heralded home care workers and slammed Republicans for going after the Affordable Care Act.

"When I got elected I was 26, 29 years old," Biden said.

After retelling the story of the death of his wife and daughter, he said: "Thank God I had a family and a lot of friends, older family members like me" who could help care for his sons.

"I couldn’t afford caregiving. God’s truth. Look, care workers represent the best of who we are in America. We leave nobody behind."

Condemning the Republicans, Biden added: "Our Republican friends let that expire. Well, we've got to expire a couple of them politically."

It comes after the 46th President was involved in another gaffe last week as he struggled to get his own name right.

The 81-year-old prompted laughter after stumbling over his own words while discussing Barack Obama’s stint in the White House.

Obama, who selected Biden as his running-mate, was referred to by the 46th President as "O’Biden".
