An expert has revealed there has been a 'bizarre' number of UFO sightings in South America

The British Government's former UFO project chief Nick Pope has revealed that there has been a swathe of sightings in South America.

There has been a significant rise in alleged UFO sightings over the recent years, particularly in Brazil.

Pope explained: "It's an interesting point because all too often when we talk about UFOs and extraterrestrials, we have a very sort of UK, US-centric view of this.

"But this is a global phenomenon and a lot is going on in South America, particularly in the jungles of Brazil over the years.

"There have been some bizarre stories coming out and we know one thing that did emerge fairly recently is the fact that the US government is looking at a tip and their their UAP task force was certainly at the tracking and aware of what was going on in Brazil.

"I'd like to see more of a spotlight shone on some of these South American sightings for sure."

The expert added that "technology is the key" to surveillance.

He said: "Technology is the key. Whether it is the smartphones that people carry or the sophisticated array of equipment that the military now has.

"I mean things like infrared cameras mounted on military jets that can pick up crystal clear images of objects that previously there wouldn't be any record of at all.

"If they did there would just be grainy old gun camera footage that frankly could be anything.

"Now we've got these Ford-looking infrared cameras.

"We've got of course sophisticated satellites that can, as the old saying goes, read a car license plate from space.

"We've got space tracking radar systems on the ground that can pick up things like a glove that an astronaut has dropped on a spacewalk.

"We've got eyes on the skies in a way that we've never had before.

"Now coupled with the awareness, I think that something is going on in our skies, something unexplained.

"So we now have that rare combination of the technology to see these things, but the mindset to realize that there is a phenomenon here and it's not just crazy conspiracy theory talk."
