Two boys, aged two and eight, were injured in separate incidents

Two children are in a critical condition after suffering injuries in separate dog attacks in the West Midlands.

A two-year-old boy was injured in an incident involving dogs at an address in Egdon, Worcestershire, on Monday.

West Mercia Police said the family tried to take the boy to hospital themselves but were urged by the ambulance service to stop at Worcester Countryside Centre.

The young child was then transferred by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

Speaking after the incident, the force’s Chief Inspector Fergus Green said: “This is an incredibly sad incident and our thoughts are with the young child and his family.

“I’d like to offer reassurance that the dogs involved have now been secured and removed from the property in Egdon, and therefore pose no risk to the public.

“A police presence will remain in place at both Worcester Countryside Centre and the address in Egdon for some time.

“Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident.

“We do not believe the dogs to be breeds banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 .

“We will provide further updates on the case as soon as we are able to.”

It comes after an eight-year-old boy suffered facial injuries during a separate attack in Cannock, Staffordshire, on Saturday.

A 51-year-woman has since been arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.

The attack also left a six-year-old girl and a woman, 35, with arm injuries.

These incidents come just days after 17-month-old Bella-Rae Birch was killed in an attack in the Blackbrook area of St Helens, Merseyside, last Monday.
