A well-known TV sports presenter has been arrested on suspicion of raping a child.

Police conducted a 4am raid at the home of the married television host earlier this week.


Officers searched the property in southern England, with computer devices and documents seized.

A man, who was later released on bail pending further enquiries, was questioned by detectives after being held in custody for around 18 hours.

The rape allegation is historical and involves a child who was under ten years of age at the time, The Sun on Sunday has revealed.

It has been alleged that the child was raped on more than one occasion over a period of time.

The unnamed presenter was working in the television industry at the time of his arrest.

TV bosses were made aware of the investigation and arrest.

However, it is not yet known whether the presenter’s TV colleagues were informed.

The complainant made the allegation recently and it was reported to police.

A specialist child abuse unit interviewed the woman at a dedicated suite.

Police confirmed an investigation was taking place and an arrest had been made.

Officers were expected to conduct further inquiries into his background as part of their investigation.

A neighbour of the man arrested told the tabloid: “The police turned up very early.

“They took him away and were there for a while ­carrying out a search.

"Everyone is shocked at his arrest.”
