The same ferry involved in the incident reportedly ran aground and went into an outdoor restaurant several weeks ago.

A spokesman for ship operating company, Strömma, said: "It's two unrelated events. We do not yet know if a technical fault was behind this incident, we have not come that far yet."

Peter Henricson, spokesperson for Strömma, told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: "It is our ferry that runs between Stockholm and Fjäderholmarna , which for unknown reasons did not have sufficient reverse power and crashed hard into the quay."

Nacka is located close by to the centre of Stockholm.

Regular ferries run between the two destinations, with the journey taking around 40 minutes.
