Strong winds and heavy rain battered the UK during Storm Henk

A motorist has died after a tree fell on the car he was driving through strong winds and heavy rain during Storm Henk on Tuesday.

The man in his 50s was driving near Kemble, Gloucestershire yesterday afternoon when a tree crushed his car.


Wind gusts reached 94mph yesterday as more than 300 flood warnings remain in place across England and Wales.

Police were called to Tetbury Road at 3.15pm to reports of a "large fallen tree".

Gloucestershire police said: "Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the location which is between Tetbury and Cirencester.

"Despite the efforts of those at the scene a man aged in his 50s and from the Bath area died.

"His next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

"The road remains closed as recovery and investigation work continues and motorists are asked to find alternative routes."

The UK’s rail network was hit by flooding and power cuts on Tuesday afternoon as many operators reported ongoing issues.

A woman was also injured by a falling tree in Orpington as high winds hit.

The Metropolitan Police were called at 3.14pm to reports that a woman had been struck by a tree in Station Approach.

Officers say her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

England also faces a severe flood warning where experts claim there is a danger to life, the Environment Agency has said.

The severe warning has been issued for River Nene at Billing Aquadrome and nearby business parks.

An additional 331 flood warnings and 362 flood alerts are also in place.
