David Davis MP reacted to the news of the death of his fellow MP Sir David Amess, following a stabbing at his constituents surgery.
Speaking to Liam Halligan, David Davis MP said: "First thing to say is that my thoughts are with his family and his staff, and his friends".
"I suspect that this must have been a shocking occurrence for those who were with him when this happened".
"It's such a terrible, tragic paradox, because he was killed doing in some ways the most important thing for an MP, and that is contact with our own constituents" said David Davis.
"I don’t think he saw politics as a career, I think he saw it as a vocation. Something he just did because he loved to serve people" said David Davis.
David Michael Davis served as Shadow Home Secretary from 2003 to 2008.
He was Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union from 2016 to 2018.
As a member of the Conservative Party, he has served as an MP for Haltemprice and Howden, formerly Boothferry, since 1987.
