The airline blamed a third-party company for the mess-up

British holidaymakers have been left in disbelief after a Ryanair flight from Bristol to Gran Canaria left without a single suitcase on board.

Flight FR4757 departed from Bristol Airport on Friday, July 18, but it was revealed mid-flight that no suitcases were loaded on board.

The captain blamed "time constraints" and a security issue in Bristol.

Passengers explained there was very little information provided to them upon arrival, and there was no initial warning.

Ryanair blamed a third-party company for the mistake

Madeleine Cooper was flying out with friends to celebrate a birthday and graduation when the captain made the mid-air announcement.

She told SomersetLive: "We had absolutely no issues at all until we landed. Then the captain said they made the difficult decision to not bring any of our luggage. They wouldn't say what the security issue was."

Some 70 bags had not made it onto the flight, with other passenger Sophie Payne saying that it was a "stressful" experience having to search for a pharmacy in Gran Canaria for an inhaler as she suffers from severe asthma.

Passengers were told they would receive their luggage the following evening but by 6pm of that night, they had received "zero communication" from Ryanair.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Multiple passengers took to social media to vent their frustrations, with one stating: "Currently in Gran Canaria with zero belongings."

Another said: "We've had to spend over €300 (£260) on essentials as we have been left with nothing, all of our clothes were in the hold bags, still haven't heard nothing from Ryanair."

One other passenger noted: "Great start to the holiday as Ryanair decided to bring zero of the suitcases from Bristol to Gran Canaria. No heart medication for me tomorrow.

In a statement to MailOnline, a Ryanair spokesman said: "Ryanair operates over 3,600 daily flights across more than 250 destinations and leads the industry with the fewest lost bags - one bag mishandled per almost 10,000 passengers.

The flight departed Bristol Airport for Gran Canaria with no suitcases

"Due to an error by our third-party handling provider at Bristol Airport, a number of bags were regrettably not loaded to this flight from Bristol to Gran Canaria on Friday (July 18).

"Affected passengers were notified and their bags were rushed on the next flight from Bristol to Gran Canaria, which departed the following afternoon.

"We sincerely apologise to affected passengers for any inconvenience caused as a result of this third-party handling provider's error, whom we are working with to ensure that this does not recur."
