Video footage shows the woman being restrained by Portuguese security staff

A British woman was forcibly removed from a Ryanair flight after allegedly making a bomb threat and assaulting fellow passengers.

The flight, travelling from Tenerife to Prestwick on Sunday, May 18, was diverted to Faro, Portugal, following the disturbance.

Video footage shared on social media shows the woman being escorted off the aircraft by security staff before a more dramatic confrontation occurred on an airport shuttle bus, where she was restrained by Portuguese police.

Passengers reported that the woman was heavily intoxicated and behaved erratically throughout the flight.

According to witness Blair Morgan, she made a false bomb threat and threatened to "bottle" people with a glass wine bottle.

"She was assaulting passengers whilst being drunk and vaping up and down the aisle. She was also standing up on seats, and taking people's headphones off and talking to them, threatening to hurt and bottle them," Morgan told the Daily Mail.

The father of three girls who were on the flight described the woman's behaviour as appalling.

"She verbally abused staff and other passengers. She verbally and physically abused one of my daughters for quite some time," he wrote in a comment on the TikTok video.

"Given the fact she threatened my daughter and threatened to bomb the plane, I think this lady got off very lightly," he added.

Morgan further described the atmosphere on board: "A lot of passengers didn't know what to do. Everyone was distressed and scared. It was really scary - it's not something you really expect."

The situation escalated further after the woman was removed from the aircraft.

Faro District Commander, Superintendent Dário Duarte Mendes Prates, confirmed she had to be restrained for her own "safety" after becoming "aggressive and uncooperative" on the airport bus.

"She kicked and head-butted the doors and windows of the bus, making it necessary, for her safety and that of the officers involved, to restrain her on the ground," a spokesperson for Polícia de Segurança Pública said.

Video footage shows officers bringing the woman to the ground as she continued to resist.

The airport's first aid team was called to assist, and the woman was subsequently taken to Faro hospital where she was kept under observation, according to Portuguese authorities.

"Already handcuffed, the passenger continued with her aggressive posture and banging her head on the bus window," the police spokesperson added.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "Ryanair has a strict zero tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct and will continue to take decisive action to combat unruly passenger behaviour, ensuring that all passengers and crew travel in a safe and respectful environment."

After the disruptive passenger was removed, the flight continued its journey to Prestwick.

Fellow passengers were heard cheering and shouting "thank f***" as the woman was escorted away by Portuguese police.
