She now wants to “have a word” with the subscription lottery service

A woman who received a “congratulations” box from the Postcode Lottery said she was left with “emotional damage” after discovering its contents.

Paige Irklis, 26, from Newcastle, came home to find a package from the Postcode Lottery. However, upon opening it, she was filled with rage and now wants to “have a word” with the subscription lottery service.

Taking to social media to express her anger, Irklis posted a video where she details what happened.

“Something happened yesterday, which in my opinion is totally unacceptable, and I can't believe that they would even do this”, she began.

“Something happened yesterday, which in my opinion is totally unacceptable, and I can't believe that they would even do this”, she began.

“I can't believe you would put anything through that - you need to sort it”, she continued, before she launched into a rant about the contents of the box.

After coming home, Irklis was thrilled to discover the box, which read “Congratulations Paige” on the top. She was ecstatic, believing it would contain a cheque with an eye-watering sum.

“In the back of my head I'm quitting my job, I'm moving abroad, my life's going to be fantastic, do you know what I mean? I had it all planned out,” she explained.

However, upon opening the package, the 26-year-old was shocked at what was inside, with the contents causing her “emotional damage”.

Inside the package was a smaller box, which Irklis noticed “smelt nice”.

Thinking that the cheque could have been sprayed with perfume, Irklis was horrified to discover that there was no cheque at all. Instead, inside the smaller box, were some candles.

“You have won...some luxury scented candles”, she read out from the letter, raging to her followers.

The 26-year-old said she wasn’t being “ungrateful” for the candles, as they “smelt lovely”. However, she expected something much bigger when she saw she had been sent a box from the Postcode Lottery, with the words “congratulations” on the front.

She compared the situation to getting an email from The National Lottery saying “Congratulations you've won” - but it's a lucky dip, not the jackpot.

Quoting from the advert for the Postcode Lottery, she said: “I really thought my street had won...finally! Someone's knocking at the door, someone's ringing the bell.”

Irklis said she wanted to tell the Postcode Lottery off for raising her hopes before quickly dashing them.

“So for future reference to the postcode lottery, how about you don't send your customers luxury scent candles in a box that makes it look like they’re going to be millionaires.

“And how about just sending me a big, fat, f*****g cheque instead? Thanks.”

The TikTok clip has already amassed 132,500 views, with shocked users reacting to the contents of Irklis’s box.

Some shared Irklis’s pain, having received lacklustre prizes. One said: “We’ve won a chopping board and a bbq tool! Not a sniff of the money”, whilst another added: “I got the same - some small tea lights from St Eval.”

However, others had been more fortunate, with one user claiming: “We won £1,000. It came in the big gold envelope. Was a lovely surprise.”
