The scandal has been brought to light in a new ITV drama, Mr Bates vs The Post Office

Britons have hit out at the latest development in the Post Office scandal, as calls for former boss Paula Vennells to be stripped of her CBE intensify.

Vennells first became involved in the company in 2007, before being promoted to Chief Executive in 2012 and stepping down in 2019.

She was then awarded a CBE in the same year by Queen Elizabeth II, for her services to the Post Office and charity causes.

However, fresh called have emerged for the honour to be stripped from Vennells, as the scandal has unveiled fresh insight thanks to a new ITV drama.

Mr Bates vs The Post Office follows victim Alan Bates, as he campaigned for justice after hundreds of sub-postmasters were wrongly accused of fraud and stealing money.

The scandal emerged after a new IT system, Horizon, was installed in 1999 and caused chaos for Post Office workers until 2015.

Over 700 individuals were affected, with some failing to see any justice in their campaign, and a few sadly taking their own lives.

After a petition to have Vennells stripped of her CBE, GB News asked Britons for their thoughts on the former Post Office boss and if they agree with petitioners.

One told GB News: "They should take it off her, because it was not anybody else's fault but theirs. Why let other people suffer?"

Another fumed at Vennells: "Take it away and she should be prosecuted, definitely. They were covering up.

"People lost their businesses, killed themselves. It's down to them. They should be prosecuted and pay for what they've done."

One other told our GB News reporter that Vennells should "never of had" the CBE.

One young Briton claimed Vennells "caused more problems than she resolved", and the former boss has "ruined people's lives".

Another stated the victims of the Post Office scandal "shouldn't be treated like that", and also called for her CBE to be stripped.
