A police officer was seen sprinting away down a street in Paisley, apparently being pursued by a man with the power tool in hand

A pair of police officers have been injured, and a man has been arrested, after authorities flocked to a street in Scotland to reports of a chainsaw-wielding man apparently chasing officers down a road in broad daylight.

Footage had circulated online of a police officer sprinting away down a street in Paisley, apparently being pursued by a man running with a chainsaw in his hands.

Between the fleeing officer and the chaser, a silver car can be seen speeding away as the chainsaw-wielding man can be heard shouting.

Later footage shows the individual apparently being arrested, with officers seen piling on to restrain an individual on the pavement by the side of the road as more police and members of the public rush to help.

A large crowd eventually develops around the man, with dozens of people seen flocking to the scene as officers surround the individual.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said Glasgow Road in Paisley was closed between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue "following a disturbance".

The statement said officers were at the scene, with members of the public urged to avoid the area, with drivers told to use an alternative route.

GB News understands Police Scotland are not treating the incident as terror-related.

A later police statement confirmed the reports, saying: "Around 1pm on Monday, May 6, 2024, a disturbance involving a weapon occurred following a collision involving a car and a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley.

"Two officers were injured and were treated by paramedics.

"A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

"There is no wider risk to the public and officers remain at the scene while enquires are ongoing."

Further images posted online appear to show a pair of damaged cars on the side of the road.

One of the two vehicles, a police car, appears to have crashed into the wall of a property, while the other, a black car, looks to have taken some significant damage to its front bumper.
