Nigel Farage has hit out at the government over its failure to run what he is calling a “broken” Britain.
A wave of strikes by nurses, paramedics, rail workers and Border Force staff this month is expected to cause mass disruption, with thousands of NHS operations and appointments cancelled. The first nurse strike is on Thursday.
The military and civil servants are likely to be brought in to cover Border Force staff, while armed forces will also be deployed to hospital trusts ahead of an ambulance worker strike on December 21.

The talks between the RCN and Mr Barclay come as strikes by ambulance staff and some NHS workers in Scotland have been called off after members of two unions voted to accept the Scottish government’s recent pay deal.
Some 64% of Unite members who voted were in favour of the deal.
Members of Unison also voted to cancel action, with 57% backing the deal on a turnout of 62%.
Following negotiations with Health Secretary Humza Yousaf and the intervention of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, the new deal would mean NHS workers in Scotland would remain the best paid in the UK, and workers would get pay rises ranging from £2,205 to £2,751.
Members of the Communication Workers Union march from Parliament Square to St James's Park.

Taking to social media to address the ongoing strike action Nigel said: “Well, what a week. Britain is broken, isn't it? We got the nurses going on strike.
“We got bus drivers in London going on strike. We've got rail going on strike.
“We've got baggage handlers at airports going on strike. We got border force going on strike.
“A list as long as your arm and even the bits that aren't on strike don't seem to work anymore.
“I was on the M20 last night near Maidstone. Quite a heavy snowfall. Cars sliding around all over the place.
“Southbound motorway completely shut. Nobody had been out gritting.
“Even this morning at breakfast, the M25 at South Mimms was closed.
“It seems nothing actually works anymore. Now, you can't say that it's all the fault of the government, but goodness me, they're not helping, are they?”
