A National Lottery winner has been unable to claim their winnings after being blocked from paying out on the app.
The Newcastle winner, known as NG, revealed the issue came around as the attached bank card was no longer in use.
“In November last year, I unexpectedly rediscovered an unused national lottery app on my mobile phone with a balance of £2.50,” they told The Guardian.
“Heady with excitement, I bought a Lotto ticket and won £106.
“But when I tried to withdraw the money, I couldn’t, as my bank card attached to the account was no longer in use, and you can only change your card if your balance is zero.
“So I am now in the bizarre situation where the only way to achieve a zero balance is to buy lottery tickets, but if I win … well, you can imagine.
“I emailed more than a fortnight ago, but have heard nothing.”
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:The issue arose shortly after Camelot was replaced by Allwyn as operator for the National Lottery in February.
Allwyn stressed it seeks to prevent funds being deposited into a national lottery account from one debit card and withdrawn on another amid concern about fraud.
Winners facing issues can call 0333 234 4433 to solve the issue.
Prizes must also be claimed within 180 days after the draw.
However, there is scope for people to claim within seven days after the end of the claim period under a certain procedure.
If a retailer is unable to pay a winning ticket of value £100.01-£500, punters have been advised to visit another National Lottery store to claim your prize.
