A new £900 cash support scheme will be on offer for more 8 million people

A £900 cash support payment will be available for more than eight million people from low-income households from the Spring, the Government has announced.

The payment will go directly into people’s bank accounts for those on Universal Credit, Pension Credit and tax credits.

There will be three separate payments of £300 – one made within the next few months, an additional cash boost in the autumn and a final sum early next year.

In addition, there will be separate payments of £150 for six million people with disabilities and £300 for more than eight million pensioners along with their winter fuel payments.

Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said: "We are sticking by our promise to protect the most vulnerable and these payments, worth hundreds of pounds, will provide vital support next year for those on the lowest incomes."

Payments will be automatic, so claimants won’t need to apply.

Warnings have been issued as scammers send fake cost-of-living messages in a bid to gain personal information.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt added: "I know these are tough times for families across the UK who are struggling to meet rising food and energy costs, drive by the aftershocks of Covid and Putin’s war in Ukraine.

"That's why we're putting a further £900 into the pockets of over eight million low income households next year.

"These payments are on top of above-inflation increases to working-age benefits and the energy price guarantee, which is insulating millions from even higher global gas prices.”
