Protests took place this summer outside a migrant hotel in Altrincham

Leader of the Conservative Group at Trafford Council has expressed his outage after being accused of promoting "fear" around migrant hotels in the area.

Speaking to GB News, Councillor Nathan Evans declared it "is our job" to voice the concerns of local residents, who have been protesting against the asylum hotel this summer.

GB News exclusively revealed that Church leaders accused local Tory councillors of spreading "fear and uncertainty" after they put forward a motion to have the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham closed down.

A statement signed by the seven church ministers said: "It appears that some in our community have identified this moment as a chance to make political capital from having asylum seekers in our town, aiming to promote uncertainty and fear."

Speaking to GB News, Mr Evans hit back at the claims made by the church leaders: "We are being contacted on a daily basis by residents who are rightly concerned, rightly worried about members of their family moving around Altrincham and Sale, and this has been going on for well over a year now.

"And out of the council and other councils, it's only the Tories have actually been listening to the residents. And when I say numbers, I'm talking about thousands of people have contacted us."

Highlighting that church leaders have "never" written to the council about any other issue, Mr Evans added: "And actually, on looking around the country, they've generally not got involved. And it's our job, isn't it?

"It's our job as elected members to represent the views of the residents and the residents feel unheard."

Noting the nationwide display of patriotic flags on the streets, the Tory Councillor stated: "I think that's reflected in the flags that we're seeing all around the country, it's just a reaction to nobody listening to residents.

"And so really, perhaps they're not even listening to their own congregations."

Revealing the feeling within the local area among residents, Mr Evans explained that it is increasingly "tense" as the use of the migrant hotel continues: "The feeling in Altrincham and Sale is quite it's tense on a daily basis, it's tense.

"We've got older people reluctant to take the bus into Altrincham for fear of what they might bump into.

"Younger people who would have been in the parks over summer, I spoke to a lady yesterday who said she just didn't have her children go to the park over the summer, which they they would have done. And this is older children of like 14 and 15, so people are worried, and nobody is reflecting that to the council."

Criticising the Government's efforts in closing down migrant hotels, Mr Evans predicted that had his council "stayed quiet" about the hotel in his area, there would be "more hotels with more illegal migrants in them".

He told GB News: "And that's all we're doing, it's not about political capital.

"Because if we'd have stayed quiet, I'm absolutely convinced we'd have had more hotels locally with more illegal migrants in them."
