The row came as the Government launched a Court of Appeal challenge over plans to house migrants at a controversial Essex hotel.
The Home Office has mounted a legal challenge at the Court of Appeal to reverse a High Court order preventing asylum seekers from remaining at The Bell Hotel in Epping beyond September 12.

Mr Williams argued that genuine refugees from war-torn nations like Afghanistan and Sudan required protection, warning they faced potential torture or death if returned.
He explained on GB News: "I do think, in a lot of this debate which has become unbelievably heated, we have to remember that while many of the people who are coming across on small boats are economic migrants, and many of them are young men, not all of them are.
"There are genuine asylum seekers fleeing conflict in places like Afghanistan, Eritrea and Sudan.
"If they are sent back there under Nigel Farage's plan, they could be tortured or killed. I think it’s really important to acknowledge that.
"Let’s not say that everybody who’s coming is in that boat no pun intended but some of them are."
Stephen responded: "Yes, but what does that mean? In a way, we need to focus on what’s happening right here and now, don’t we?

"With this ruling, how is it going to go down in the UK to be told, when people are already angry, frustrated and feeling threatened, that their rights as British citizens come second to those of illegal asylum seekers?"
Mr Williams later added: "I mean, that is absolutely clear. People have the right to protest and make their voices heard. They have to be safe as well."
Stephen interjected: "Absolutely they do. But if you want to go and make your case and protest, do it outside Parliament, do it loudly and vociferously."
Stephen fumed: "No one’s listening outside Parliament. No one is listening."
Mr William replied: "Of course they are look at the front page of The Times.
"The farmers, thousands of them, protesting outside Parliament. That makes a difference."
Stephen said: "That’s a different issue, and I’m sure we’ll talk about tax at some point."
Mr William concluded: "Well, it is a different issue, but still nobody listens."
