The migrant had to be supported by an interpreter during the hearing

A small boat migrant who came to the UK has denied spitting at a police officer.

Kabashi Ibrahim, from Sudan, was accused of assaulting a police officer in Westminster, London.

Two witnesses saw the incident on July 20, 2024, when Ibrahim approached officers.

Ibrahim had been living in supported accommodation in Buckinghamshire but has since lost his complex and is now homeless.

The small boat migrant spoke only to confirm his personal details at Westminster magistrates' court.

Ibrahim was supported by a Sudanese interpreter during the hearing.

He has been granted unconditional bail until his trial, which is set to place on November 4, 2025, before City of London magistrates.

His arrest and prosecution follow another migrant being arrested for raping a 12-year-old girl.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Asylum seeker Mohammed Wahid Mohammed, 22, was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court after a jury found him guilty of three rape charges.

He had previously admitted two counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13.

The court heard how Mohammed lured the vulnerable child to a room above a shop in Handsworth, where he was working illegally.

Mohamed sexually assaulted the young girl for approximately an hour, where he insisted she consented before being informed that a 12-year-old cannot legally give consent.

Since the crisis began, some 175,000 migrants have illegally crossed the Channel in small boats.

Several hundred demonstrators assembled outside a hotel accommodating asylum seekers in Essex recently.

Protesters were heard chanting "save our kids", with some setting off flares in blue and red, while others held signs which read "deport foreign criminals", "we go home when they go back" and "defend our girls".
