The GB News star attempted to engage with camp residents but was met with hostile resistance and was forced to flee the scene

A violent incident erupted when GB News presenter Patrick Christys visited a migrant camp in France, resulting in glass bottles being hurled at him and significant damage to his vehicle.

The host attempted to engage with camp residents but was met with hostile resistance and was forced to flee the scene.

Patrick described the alarming situation to GB News viewers. "We're going to get out of here. We just had glass bottles thrown at us so that's that," he said.

The confrontation escalated as he retreated to his vehicle. Migrants at the camp shouted profanities whilst pelting the car as it drove away.

Once safely away from the camp, Patrick assessed the damage to the vehicle approximately 400 metres from the scene.

He recounted to viewers the harrowing escape and its costly consequences.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Patrick told viewers: "As we were leaving, they started throwing things at us. We got in the car, and they managed to hit the windscreen a bit.

"And this dent here is probably about £1,000 worth of damage, along with some scratches and scuffs.

"But look, I can understand why people might feel offended by someone turning up with a camera unannounced and talking to them.

"Okay, fair enough. But there’s an irony there, isn’t there? Given what they’re trying to do, turning up in Britain completely unannounced and expecting the taxpayer to foot the bill.

"We got away relatively lightly there, I think. Thankfully, nothing hit us."

The number of migrants arriving in the UK through the use of dinghies this year has increased by around 50 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.

There have been more than 21,000 crossings so far in 2025 alone, despite repeated Government pledges to stop the boats.

In the last week alone, 1,114 migrants have arrived in the UK via small boat, according to the Home Office.

Last week the Home Secretary announced that French authorities had stopped more than half of small boat crossings in the Channel this year.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper told MPs that nearly 500 crossings had been “prevented” by the French police, with 385 reaching British shores.

Speaking in the Commons, Cooper told MPs the Government had five tactics to address small boat crossings, including strengthening the border and clamping down on illegal working.
