Man killed in Highlands paragliding crash

A woman was also seriously injured in the collision, Police Scotland said.

A man has died and a woman has been seriously injured while paragliding in the Highlands.

The 54-year-old man died after crashing near Loch Na Gainmhich by the A894, about 14 miles from Lochinver, shortly before 4.45pm on Saturday.

A force spokesperson said: “Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing. The next of kin of those involved have been informed.”

The fire service was also called to the scene on Saturday afternoon with two engines and a special resource vehicle from Inverness in attendance.

Speaking on Saturday, a fire service spokesman said: “We were called at around 5.54pm to assist police and ambulance with an aircraft accident involving two gliders near the A894 south of Unapool.

“We sent two pumps, along with a special appliance resource from Inverness.”
