New details have been uncovered about two weapons found in Portugal during a search relating to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Police carried out a three-day search for forensic evidence last month in Praia da Luz, Portugal, near to the villa where the toddler was staying in 2007 before she mysteriously went missing.
Prime suspect in the case, Christian Brueckner, is currently serving a seven-year prison term for raping an American pensioner in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz.
He is however set to be released on September 17, factoring in time served before his previous trial.
Two guns were found at a derelict property where Brueckner was known to have stayed in 2007, are reportedly still being analysed.
A source in Lisbon revealed told the Olive Press that one of the weapons had been found in the ruin where Brueckner is alleged to have camped beside his van.
The source said: “The guns were found in different places and were immediately seized by the PJ [Portugese Criminal Investigation Police].
“They wanted to keep everything under their control.”
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Former friends and acquaintances of Brueckner also told the outlet that he had a similar sized weapon when he lived in a village near Praia da Luz for some time in 2007.
Despite his denial, German police believe convicted rapist and paedophile Brueckner took part in the disappearance of the young Briton.
The sex offender became the primary suspect of the case after disturbing clues were discovered at the 48-year-old's abandoned lair in Germany, as the probe into Madeleine's disappearance intensified in May.
Documents, pictures, children's swimming costumes and toys were reportedly uncovered at a former box-making factory he bought in 2008, a year after the British girl was last seen.
