The M4 has been closed after a lorry reportedly carrying crates of wine has caught fire on the Prince of Wales Bridge.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the bridge, while emergency services are currently at the scene.

Closer images from those on the bridge show the extent of the incident, with firefighters using hoses to tackle the blaze.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: "A lorry fire on the M4 Severn Bridge has closed the west-bound carriageway.

"Police, fire & Highways teams are at the scene.

"Please use alternative routes. Travel disruption is likely on the M4 & M5 in our area as well as in Gwent."

Traffic monitoring service Inrix said at 3.21pm: "All traffic being temporarily held and queueing traffic due to vehicle fire on M4 Prince of Wales Bridge Westbound from J22 M49 to J23 M48."
