Mrs Connolly, 42, left HMP Peterborough on Thursday after spending more than a year behind bars for a social media post

Lucy Connolly's husband Raymond has issued a withering message to the Prime Minister after his wife finally won her freedom.

On Thursday, Mrs Connolly was released from prison after being jailed for a social media post last year.

And today, she is expected to speak out for the first time since her release.

Meanwhile Mr Connolly, a Conservative councillor at Northampton Town Council, said his wife had coped "relatively well" behind bars.

The councillor added: "It will be good to have her home. We are thankful for the support.

"Our focus will be to try to sort out our lives and for my wife to reconnect with our daughter."

Mrs Connolly finally left HMP Peterborough in a taxi at 10am after almost 10 months of her 31-month prison spell came to a close.

In total, she spent more than a year locked up, having been remanded in custody ahead of her sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court.

Richard Tice, Reform UK's deputy leader who revealed that Mrs Connolly had been injured in a "politically motivated" prison attack, said he was "delighted" that she was free.

"She should never have been inside in the first place," Mr Tice raged.

"I understand she is doing OK and am sure it was a very emotional reunion for her," he told The Sun. "The family will now need some time and space to readjust and welcome Lucy home."

"We all need to keep the pressure on the Government and Keir Starmer as to why she was prosecuted in the first place.

"Given that, in 2013, while Director of Public Prosecutions he introduced guidelines that would have kept Lucy out of jail he is the biggest hypocrite in the country.

"This case just confirms that we have two-tier justice."

Back in May, the Prime Minister was probed at PMQs by Mr Tice's former parliamentary colleague Rupert Lowe over whether Mrs Connolly's jailing was an "efficient or fair use" of prison.

Now, the mother-of-one could visit Westminster herself as a guest of honour at a debate on Mr Lowe's landmark petition to review the possible penalties for social media posts.
