Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, of the Metropolitan Police, said: "Our thoughts continue to remain with the family and friends of Annabel as they navigate this devastating loss.

"We ask that the public refrain from speculation and respect their privacy at this time, and we thank the Hackney community for their ongoing support."

Two children were also taken to hospital following the incident, but were not believed to have been inside the property at the time of the gas explosion.

Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters were called to the property.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

In a statement previously issued by the Metropolitan Police, Rook's family said they were "struggling to come to terms with this terrible tragedy".

The tribute read: "We have lost our beautiful daughter, sister, friend and mother. Annabel was a truly wonderful woman.

"She touched the hearts of so many. She gave her life to helping the vulnerable and the disadvantaged, whether it was in refugee camps in Africa or setting up MamaSuze in London, to enhance the lives of survivors of forced displacement and gender-based violence.

"We would really appreciate it if our privacy could be respected."

Police were called to the property at 4.57am on June 17, following reports of a gas explosion, with a person trapped inside.

The front bay windows of the property had been completely blown out, with debris scattered across the street.

A resident on Dumont Road, who did not want to be named, said he heard a crash "like somebody dropped a massive glass cabinet from a crane".

He added: "I looked out and saw panes of glass on the floor. You could tell it wasn't a car window. Eventually, I noticed the beam on the bay window was missing and could see some mild smoke coming out of the back.

"People started arriving and saying to phone the police. There was a guy rushing around, very distraught."
