Geoff Ho, who was injured during the incident, has shared what he witnessed on the night eight people were killed and 48 were injured

Geoff Ho, who survived the 2017 London Bridge terror attack, has told GB News he would have preferred to have been attacked rather than his friends.

Ho, who was injured during the incident, explained what happened on the night eight people were killed and 48 were injured.

He described how he had been protecting his friends when three terrorists attempted to kick in the door of a restaurant where they were gathered.

Ho, who was injured during the attack, told GB News: “To be honest, I don't think I really had a choice about it. I was there, I saw these three people try to kick in the door in the restaurants. To be perfectly honest, it happened really, really fast, and it felt like I didn't have a choice.

“Heroes choose to actively run to danger. Danger found me. I didn't have a choice about it. So, there was my friends, there was me. I made the calculation that if anything happened to me, it would be better than it happening to my friends. It's really that simple.

“I remember everything from that day. Basically, what happened was that I was out, earlier in the day I watched the Lions tour of New Zealand, and then after I finished work with some mutual friends of ours, I ended up going to The Sheaf and London Bridge and a bunch of other pubs to watch the Champions League final.

“And after the Champions League final, I decided to go home because it'd been a long day.

"But instead of going straight home, I stopped outside the Southwark Tavern pub to break up what I thought was a fight and then I went to the restaurant just to catch up with a few more friends, which was when the terrorists attacked.

“I had no idea it was actually a terrorist attack. At first, you see what happened was that having broken up the fight outside a pub and stopped a bouncer being beaten up by two people, I thought that the three terrorists were actually in some way related to the people who I helped get arrested after I broke up the fight outside the pub.

“The police turned up, arrested the two attackers, took them away, and so when I was in the restaurant just before the terror attack, and then I saw the terrorists roll up, I actually thought they were somehow related to the two people I'd helped put away.”

A memorial service took place earlier today outside Southwark Cathedral to mark the eighth anniversary of the London Bridge terror attacks.

The gathering at the Permanent Memorial of the London Bridge Attack in Cathedral Square was attended by loved ones of those killed and injured, survivors, the local community and dignitaries.

Ho said he planned to attend the memorial service to remember the eight victims who lost their lives that night.

The memorial saw floral tributes laid at the memorial plaque, with organisers Living Bankside emphasising it provides an occasion for "reflection and solidarity with all faiths and those of no particular faith".

The survivor added to GB News: "I'm actually going to go to the pub, and quite frankly, I'm going to have more than a few drinks to commemorate, to remember the people who, unfortunately, the eight people who didn't make their way home that night," he told GB News.

He expressed his wish that he could have helped the victims survive the attack. "God willing, I would give anything if I could have actually helped them make their way home.

"But sadly, they didn't. So yes, I'll be going to the pub and I'll be drinking in their memory."
