Issuing a statement, they said: “Lidl GB is recalling Simply Grated Cheese, 500g with Best Before Date 23/12/2022 due to potential presence of pieces of plastic in the product, which makes this product unsafe to eat.

“If you have bought the above mentioned product we advise you not to eat it."

They added: “Instead, return it to a Lidl GB store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

“Other Simply products and Best Before Dates are not affected by this recall."
