A father and son have been charged with murder over a car crash which led to the death of a four-year-old boy.

Patrick Maughan and Owen Maughan from Hill Rise in Kent have been charged with murder after a crash between two pickup trucks.


The four-year-old boy has been named as family member, Peter Maugan.

The two men are also charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and attempted wounding with intent relating to the two people injured.

Peter's father, Lovell Mahon, was left in a critical condition, and a one-year-old girl received minor injuries.

Patrick Maughan and Owen Maughan are also charged with the attempted wounding of the mother of the children, Hayley Maughan.

The crash happened on New Barn Road in Dartford at just before 9.30pm on June 1.

The road was blocked in both directions following the incident.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

On June 2, the two men were arrested in connection with the crash, and the duo was charged today.

Kent Police is continuing to appeal for information about the crash that involved two grey Ford Rangers.

The police are insisting that anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage contact them or the Major Crime Unit via the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP).

The two men appeared separately wearing grey prison jumpers.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear at Maidstone Crown Court later this week.

A provisional plea and trial preparation hearing date of July 2 has also been set.
