Joe Biden has kept classified documents from his time as Vice President in a garage.
The US President’s lawyers made the revelation and Biden’s administration is said to be “fully cooperating”.
The president's lawyers discovered a small number of documents with classified markings in the garage of his house in Wilmington, Delaware, the White House said on Thursday.
A single document was found in a room next to the garage and no documents were found in the Bidens' Rehoboth Beach home.
Last night it was revealed that aides discovered at least one additional batch of classified documents in a location separate from the Washington, D.C., office he used after serving as vice president.
Biden aides have been searching for additional classified materials that might be in other locations after a set of classified documents were found in November at a Washington think tank.
Speaking on Tuesday, Biden said: "They found some documents in a box in a locked cabinet, or at least a closet. And as soon as they did, they realised there were several classified documents in that box. And they did what they should have done. They immediately called the Archives," he said.
"I was briefed about this discovery and surprised to learn that there were any government records that were taken there to that office, but I don't know what's in the documents,"
Biden used the think-tank office space from 2017 when his term as vice president for Barack Obama ended, until the start of his 2020 presidential campaign.
Donald Trump kept thousands of government records, a few hundred of which were marked as classified, inside his Florida residence for more than a year after departing the White House, and did not return them immediately or willingly despite numerous requests by the National Archives.

When Trump finally handed over 15 boxes of records in January 2022, the Archives discovered more than 100 were marked as classified.
The FBI is now debating whether or not they will prosecute the former president.
If they choose to it could set a dangerous precedent for Joe Biden and bring into question whether he should also be prosecuted.
