The teen's body was discovered on July 15 last year in a remote mountainous area

Jay Slater's final communications before his disappearance in Tenerife last year have emerged during testimony at Preston Coroner's Court.

The 19-year-old sent multiple Snapchat messages to friend Bradley Geoghegan whilst staying with Ayoub Qassim and Stephen Roccus in the early hours of June 17 last year.

The messages, which began around 5.30am, included an image of a bed prepared for him at the men's accommodation.

Geoghegan told the inquest that Slater appeared neither distressed nor anxious in these communications.

One message contained content about a watch, though Geoghegan stated he "can't remember what else" was included in that particular communication.

The teenager had been removed from Papagayo nightclub at approximately 10pm on June 16 for excessive alcohol consumption, according to Geoghegan's testimony.

After meeting Slater outside, Geoghegan observed that his friend appeared "in a better state" than when inside the venue.

The pair subsequently visited Sugar Reef at 4am, departing for Geoghegan's accommodation between 5am and 6am.

Qassim testified that when he encountered Slater around 5am, the teenager was "on the buzz, head bopping, chill, happy, mingling innit" whilst moving between a club and food establishment.

Throughout the evening, Geoghegan indicated Slater had consumed ecstasy pills, cocaine and ketamine during their Tenerife holiday.

Slater's final video message showed him walking along a main road, with Geoghegan noting his friend appeared "in a better way" than during their previous encounter.

When questioned about whether Slater seemed under duress in any communications, Geoghegan responded "no".

The coroner explored whether combining drugs and alcohol affects decision-making, to which Geoghegan suggested such combinations typically increase impulsive behaviour rather than careful thinking.

The teenager from Oswaldtwistle, Lancaster, had attended the NRG music festival on June 16 before being reported missing two days later.

His body was discovered on July 15 in a remote mountainous area.

The resumed inquest heard testimony from Home Office pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd, who determined Slater's injuries were "entirely consistent" with a fall from significant height.

Dr Shepherd stated the head injury was "so severe" that unconsciousness would have been immediate, with death potentially instantaneous.

No evidence of assault or restraint was found.

Toxicology expert Dr Stephanie Martin confirmed the presence of MDMA, MDA, cocaine and alcohol in Slater's system.

The hearing had been postponed from May 21 after Slater's mother, Debbie Duncan, emotionally requested the coroner locate additional witnesses who had failed to appear.
