Jill Mortimer MP has been facing intimidation from migrant men at her Hartlepool office

Hartlepool MP Jill Mortimer has caused uproar in her constituency, after claiming that her office had been "besieged" by migrants.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Mortimer told MPs her staff are "intimidated by young men".

Mortimer was met with audible gasps by backbenchers as she further claimed that the men intimidating her staff are "illegal migrants who should be expelled".

Speaking to GB News reporter Charlie Peters, Mortimer was asked if she was "angry" at the Home Office following the incident.

Jill Mortimer says she has 'every faith' in Suella Braverman to tackle migration

Mortimer said she has "absolutely every faith" in both Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick and Home Secretary Suella Braverman to "get a grip on this now".

She added: "I know that they are as anxious as I am to deal with this problem and I have every faith that they will."

Mortimer's office manager revealed they often see up to "20 young men" at their door every day.

She stated that the men "knock on the windows, ring the bell, and kick the door", added that when they are let in, they force their way in.

Expressing concern for the young staff members at the office, the manager said: "It's not a nice feeling. We've got no protection once they're in here.

When asked how she felt about their experiences being put down to "racist stereotyping", she replied: "It makes me angry and it's disappointing as well. It's like we don't matter, we're just here to serve.

"But what's going to happen if something happens to us? How far does it have to go? Do we have to be hurt? Is that what they want?

She continued: "They want somebody to be hurt so that we can then say, Oh well, actually she probably wasn't racist."

One Hartlepool resident said there's 'always been a north-south divide'

Speaking to a Hartlepool resident, Charlie asked how they felt about the incidents at Mortimer's office.

He fumed: "The government never pay any attention to the north. It's always been a north-south divide and it's always going to be that way.

"Is it ever going to change? Probably not.

"Jill Mortimer was probably shouting her mouth off and nothing's going to get done about it. They're more interested in banning a bulldog breed than sorting issues like this out."
